Math: Today Sadee took her 100 subtraction problems assessment. It is not yet being officially timed, but she has been practicing! She scored a 100% accuracy on her work! For our Fun Friday math activities we played a penguin-themed game to practice telling time. Sadee practiced writing the time and we generated a fictional statement as to if it was a.m. or p.m. We also rolled dice to draw pictures and write three-digit numbers by place value and in expanded form. ELA: Sadee scored a 100% on her spelling and dictation weekly assessment. Next, she completed her journal assignment for writing about the USA Flag. She met her rubric requirements of having a title, a picture to match the writing, proper punctuation, three questions, and a minimum of three adjectives. We worked on several follow-up activities for our novel, Dinosaurs Before Dark. Sadee completed the multiple-choice 12 question assessment, scoring a 100%. She also drew a picture of her favorite dinosaur and completed a word search with words from the book. For Fun Friday, Sadee had a great time pairing up words to create compound words (on paper shaped peanuts) and then feeding the “peanuts” to my “elephant” (decorated shoebox). She wrote a list of each compound word, making sure there wasn’t a space between the two parts. Bible: Sadee began with recitation of her Bible verse. She scored a 100%. We then read from I Samuel 11, 13 about Saul’s Downfall. We watched a Holy Tales story video to support the reading.

Uncle Sam and the flag

Sadee was very engaged in a flag activity this fun Friday morning. She aligned the stripes and stars correctly independent of supervision. We read the Boxcar Children - The Yellow House mystery. Sadee listened to me read chapter 1, 'The Cave,' aloud and was able to answer questions about the main characters and make predictions that were logical, based on content. We watched a video about Uncle Sam and how the American flag is folded as a way of respect. Sadee also completed a penmanship sheet, and was permitted to draw a smiley face and star to showcase her good work. We enjoyed a fun and productive Friday.

Math: Saxon Lesson 93 focused on learning to count quarters. We practiced several examples before working through her Guided Class Practice A and B. Her work also includes a spiral review, so she was tasked with counting coins (pennies, dimes, and quarters), finding fractional parts, drawing pictures to show three-digit values and then writing in expanded form, finding lines of symmetry, and subtraction of two-digit by two-digit numbers. ELA: For grammar study today, Sadee marked all of the words in a 25-word chart as noun, verb, or adjective. She did a great job, scoring 24/25. Next, she worked on her Language textbook activity which tasked her with changing the y to I and adding -es, writing the names of people in her family, writing a sentence about her family, and using pictures to help complete sentences. Once we got started in her book, Dinosaurs Before Dark, we just couldn’t put it down! We read chapters 6 -10 today to finish the book! We alternated pages in our read-aloud making predictions, discussing the events, and analyzing the actions and feelings of the characters along the way. Additionally, we discussed several verbs as we read, such as inched, charged, teetering, and tingle. We also worked to read with expression by raising our voices with a question mark. Sadee wrote in her comprehension packet after each chapter and began taking a full book assessment that she’ll complete in a later session. She did a fantastic job with this book and we have a few remaining follow-up activities for further study to complete. Bible: Sadee recited her memory verse and completed a fill-in-the blank version for extra practice. We then read I Samuel 8 – 10 about Saul, the first king of the Israelites who was chosen by Samuel.
