Richard and I began with a decimal review on how to say decimal amounts and each digit's place value. Then, Richard used a decimal place value chart to model decimal amounts to the tenths and hundredths place by shading the given decimal amounts. Using this manipulative, Richard recognized that decimal amounts can be combined to make a whole amount by shading ten of ten parts or a hundred of hundred parts. Finally, Richard used the remaining time to practice basic multiplication facts with an online race car game.

Richard completed his interactive calendar. He read and discussed his vocabulary words. He began to assemble his STEM Project.

Richard focused today on his placement of letters, position of his words, his pencil grip, and his posture as he wrote today's informative/explanatory lesson about ways to help at home.

I read The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, and we discussed it.

Richard used Play Doh to practice his spelling words (guess, guest, guy, guide) We reviewed sounds he has worked on all year. He read books with words he can read.

Session began with stretching to bilateral calves and continues to focus on heel to toe walking around school hallways and playground. Student performed gait well with shoes on, but required verbal cues to reinforce proper heel-toe gait when barefoot. Session included timed races with other students with a focus on running form.

We read a biography of Eleanor Roosevelt which discussed her role as First Lady and the support she provided to support to her husband, Theodore Roosevelt, who had polio. Richard remembered that Teddy Roosevelt is honored on Mount Rushmore. We learned that Eleanor Roosevelt worked for the rights of women, African Americans, and other groups. We also read an excerpt from a primary source, which was a speech on the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a document which she helped write, and noted that it lists basic rights that all people should have and that many are also found in the United States Bill of Rights, about which we learned in a previous class.

This morning, we focused on understanding decimals, decimal place values, and how to say decimal amounts. Then, we worked on comparing decimals with decimal war using 0 - 9 number cards and a printed decimal. Using a zero in the ones place and the printed decimal, we each flipped over a card in the tenths place. Richard correctly said the amount as a decimal and as a fraction before determining who won the round. Then, cards were placed in the tenths and hundredths place and compared using the same process of saying the amount as a decimal and fraction. If the amounts were the same we had a war and the player with the most cards at the end of class won the game.

Richard completed his interactive calendar. He read, discussed, and answered questions pertaining to a story about oxygen in outer space. He took a quiz over the concepts covered this week.
