Kellan read about the 6 kingdoms of living things and the 5 things plants need to survive. I verbally quizzed him. He drew these terms, definitions and illustrations on the board. We examined our bean plants outside and discussed how leaves are important for photosynthesis, which is how a plant makes its own food.
Kellan continues to study the Crusades, and discovers that this territory is still fought over today. He read about and discussed the importance of the Magna Carta. He worked on his Midwest States and Capitals.
Kellan did a word puzzle to practice his spelling words. I read to him about Pearl Harbor. I read to him my Dad's reflection on his war experience, and we discussed it. He wrote in his journal about how to get along with people.
To begin, Kellan answered the daily review question on finding common multiples and he took the final 4s fact check needed to show proficiency and mark it as complete on his progress chart. Then, today's lesson focused on dividing with remainders. We reviewed basic division facts on the whiteboard before drawing models to represent division with amounts remaining or unable to be placed equally into each group.
Kellan learned the 6 kingdoms of living things and made illustrated notecards: plants, animals, fungi, bacteria, archaea, and protists. He read about the 6 kingdoms.
Kellan wrote his spelling words in his dictionary. I read more about Pearl Harbor and discussed it. We discussed what he wants to do for Christmas as a prewriting activity.
