Political Patterns & Processes Review
Lesson Outline
We began with reviewing Joshua's HW FRQ. He incorporated some good points and good geography terminology into this response, but it still could be better. Joshua has been assigned another FRQ to complete this weekend in addition, he will bring his text and Barron's book home to review each of them extensively as this is the last weekend before his AP Human Geography exam. Joshua continued to work answering and evaluating questions from the 2021 AP exam.

Political Patterns & Processes Review
Lesson Outline
Today we began with a review of Joshua's recent FRQ response assignment. Joshua's response needed work and we identified that a brief review of Buddhism was needed. Joshua identified important facts in his FRQ responses, he just needs to support them with explanation and examples. He has 20 min. to answer 3 of the 4 FRQs on the exam. Joshua admits he spent less than 20 min. on this practice FRQ and as a result, it is way too brief and lacking the necessary supporting details necessary to earn the maximum amount of points. We then began to assess questions from the 2021 AP exam to review Unit 4: Political Patterns & Processes.

Lesson Comments
Joshua was very distracted in class today and had a lot of difficulty remaining focused. He was reminded countless times to remain focused, but it was difficult for him. Joshua has a tendency to eat in almost every class we meet - morning and afternoon. There is nothing wrong this...it's just that this alone, is another distraction for Joshua. He will drop or spill food and then laugh at his clumsiness and interrupt the lesson to clean it up as perhaps a diversion? His AP exam is one week from today!

Unit 3: Cultural Patterns & Processes Review
Lesson Outline
Joshua did not complete his HW last night. He says he forgot to do it. We looked at a review video on AP Central re: the concepts a student should know about for the AP exam and how students should respond to FRQ questions. It's vital that Joshua practice his writing for the AP exam so has to complete the assignment for our next class. We continued reviewing the concept of diffusion and its specifics types (expansion, hierarchical, cultural, contagious, relocation, spatial, stimulus). We returned to the College Board/AP Central website for Joshua to continue work on answering M/C questions about Unit 3: Cultural Patterns & Processes. He did well with today's M/C questions. The video enforced that Joshua needs to incorporate more detail into his FRQ responses in order to get the maximum amount of points on the AP exam.

Lesson Comments
Joshua thought it was funny that he didn't complete his AP HW last night. This is not only detrimental to his grade, but to his success on the AP exam. Joshua is not applying himself to the writing that comprises 50% of this AP exam.

FRQ Evaluation & AP practice questions
Lesson Outline
Today we began with a review of Joshua's HW responding to an FRQ about Dhaka, Bangladesh. Joshua had to define:primate city, and discuss what it is, as well as world cities and mega cities. The response needed some more detail and we reviewed these details. We then returned to the College Board/AP Central website for Joshua to work on answering M/C questions about Unit 2: Population Migration Patterns & Process. Joshua's writing has improved. But multiple choice questions remain his area of strength. He did well with today's M/C questions. We reviewed that Joshua needs to incorporate more detail into his FRQ responses in order to get the maximum amount of points on the AP exam.

Joshua's propensity for (purposeful?) clumsiness is continuing to get in the way of his focus in class. He continues to struggle with remaining seated and paying attention. It's extremely detrimental to AP exam review and preparation.

Political Entities: Types & Examples
Lesson Outline
Political entities exist to govern different geographic regions, and as such, there are many different types. We reviewed what political entities are and discussed some different types of political entities. Countries use different names for specific land areas within their borders. For example: in the U.S., we have states, Canada has provinces, Switzerland has cantons, Japan has prefectures. These are just a handful of the names used to describe similar areas within a nation. We also discussed the difference between an international and a supranational organization using the European Union (EU) and North Atlantic Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) as examples.

Lesson Comments
This was a remote class today due to Bari being out sick. Joshua seemed to have connectivity issues with the school lap-top during first period. We tried to work with it the best we could. I have never had such a hard time with dropped calls and audio issues in a remote lesson. All other remote lessons were perfectly fine today. Either Joshua had trouble with the school lap-top or could he have thought he was being funny? I just don't know.
