Penny practiced her handwriting skills, using the whiteboard and a penmanship notation pad. She was responsive to directives and followed a model template to assist her. We then went outdoors for the remaining 5 minutes and she practiced her hula hoop skills and played on the jungle gym with her friend.
Penny made slime, although we probably needed to add a bit more water! Penny also received a geode to break open with Kip. Penny received gifts and said her farewells.
Penny cleaned out her room and we packed all her items to take home.
Penny also played Jenga- a wood, team building game. This game also works on fine motor and eye/hand coordination.
On Penny's last day this year at Batt, we had fun with a vacuum chamber we made using a Tinker Crate project. Penny guessed what would happen if balloons were put into a vacuum chamber, and she collaborated with two other students to see if her hypothesis would prove correct. Penny correctly guessed that the balloons would first grow bigger. We learned what the words 'inflate' and 'deflate' mean. Penny had fun feeling the air flow and the suction created by her actions using a pump, and then actually got to see the balloons inflate and deflate. We spent the last few minutes of the session watering the plants she grew in the garden. All in all, Penny enjoyed all the attention and fun activities planned for the day. We will all miss her happy disposition and effervescent spirit but wish her a safe and happy trip back to New Jersey.

I worked with Penny today, Friday, 4/30/21, from 11:30 - 12:00.
Penny and I observed the mimosa seeds we put in a cup of water. She learned a new vocabulary word - germinate. The seeds, however, have not yet begun to germinate although they've been water for 2 weeks. Penny played with her friend, Avery, the last 5 minutes of class and they had fun on the jungle gym.

Penny practiced using phonics in context with word recognition. Penny also practiced reading a procedural text and asking questions about words in the text. Penny also practiced using a ruler and measured the mandevilla and wrote the height of the plant on a chart.
Penny reviewed sight words and sound pronunciation of each letter. Penny also practiced knowing the difference between long and short sounds of letters with capitalization.
Penny and I completed the eyes of her Wonder Woman painting and let it dry. I introduced Penny to digital drawing and painting. I imported an image of Elsa into Photoshop and worked with Penny to use a Wacom Cintiq.
Sight Words - Penny read the words on her word ring. She sounded out many of the words and a few she had to know by sight.
We also played “Letter Pop”. Penny had to give the letter name , it’s sound(s), and if it was a vowel or a consonant for each letter selected.
