We covered what is the binary number system and what binary data is used for.

Today's lesson focused on trade in the Kingdoms of Africa. Mercer read material about the salt from the Sahara desert. He learned that salt was one of the major trade goods of ancient West Africa, where little, very little, naturally occurring mineral deposits could be found. The most common exchange was salt for gold dust that came from the mines of southern West Africa. Mercer learned that salt was such a precious commodity that it was quite literally worth its weight in gold in some parts of West Africa. Mercer spent time completing activities, naming countries in Africa and their capitals.

Today we started a "Rockalingua" activity in which we reinforced the vocabulary of the seasons and the weather. We learned new verbs that we will use in the next chapter.

He learned how to write g and d in cursive. We did another activity combining two simple sentences to make one single more concise compound sentence using the proper conjunctions. We worked on a Wordly Wise activity determining which words were used correctly in the sentences. We reviewed vocabulary words from yesterday and began reading an African folktale, " The Magic Gourd."

We reviewed his new spelling words and this week's spelling homework assignments. He learned to write the letters o and a in cursive. We worked on an activity combining two simple sentences into one using the proper punctuation and conjunction. We did an activity with his Wordly wise words making connections with the words and their meanings. We discussed the vocabulary words for his language arts story, "Sharing Traditions." We began reading this story and had a discussion about folktales, as they relate to Africa's tradition of oral story telling. We watched a video about the African folktale, "Anansi and the Turtle."

Lesson 2 Temperature: We learned how temperature is related to kinetic energy. Then we learned the Kinetic Theory of Matter and what it encompasses. Next we learned about measuring temperature.
Assignment: Add notes on temperature and Kinetic Theory of Matter to Science Notebook. Complete Lesson Review page 207.

Mercer and I worked to together to remove and reposition the feet of his Pikachu so that it was sitting instead of standing. I had Mercer place the sculpture to the side and we created to the ears for his sculpture.

Mercer continued exercises from the 6th grade math Envision textbook, multiplication of fractions.

Today we read about the different climates in Latin America and then we watched a video about the different seasons of the year in different Spanish-speaking countries.

Finish all major details in the Artigras painting. Color in the roses and figure so that next class we can finish the background and frame the art piece.
