Spelling Reading Comprehension Literature Handwriting Wordly Wise
Lesson Outline
He took his spelling test and he made a 93. We reviewed and discussed the meanings of his new spelling words. He learned how to write the lower case letters y and c in cursive. We delved into the meanings and derivations of his new Wordly Wise words and then completed an activity on the words in context. We began his new language arts story, "Sharing Traditions." He copied down the new vocabulary words for this passage along with looking up their definitions in the glossary.
Today we added the seasons of the year to our vocabulary. We reviewed the questions in Spanish Cual and Como? and we practiced with the question: Cual es tu estacion favorita? What is your favorite season?
We completed an experiment to explore the physical and chemical properties of several substances. Then we made a solution combining the substances and recorded the types of energy required for the reaction and available in the product.
Work on Mercer's Artigras piece. Focus on shading in the roses in his piece. Focus on using the pencils to create detailed highlights and shadows. While working listen the history of Andy Warhol documentary.

Mercer was well behaved today and worked on his project while finishing the documentary. His piece is really unique and I can't wait to see it finished.
Today's lesson focused on camels in the Sahara Desert. The Hardy Camel allowed ancient peoples to carry more goods across the inhospitable Sahara and do it faster, reducing both cost and risk. Mercer read material that detailed the benefits of camels and when they became common in the 4th-century CE. Mercer discussed the details of the camel being able to go without water for up to a month and store food in their humps as opposed to well-known myths about them keeping water in their humps.

We continued Mercer's geography work with the digital "Timeline of National Flags." It's a great way to see how the world changes over the course of history through to present day. Mercer really enjoys this.

We began a study of his new Wordly Wise lesson delving into their meanings and derivations. We read a language arts passage about how sleep is good for brain function, and discussed the reasons why.

He took his Wordly Wise test and got everything right. We did an activity on compound sentences focusing on the correct punctuation and usage. He learned to write the lower case letters r and s in cursive. We began his new Wordly Wise list delving into pronunciation and meanings. We reviewed his spelling words and homework assignments.
Mercer and I work together to begin the construction of his giant Pikachu sculpture. I had Mercer use three sheets of tin foil to create the body and head of his character. Once he had the general shape, Mercer covered the entire character with clay and we worked together to smooth out the body and head of the character. Mercer was able to complete the face portion of his clay sculpture.
