Mercer's project is really interesting. It doesn't exactly match the theme but it is creative. He is learning the pencils well and is getting hang of the two blending techniques that I taught him.
Today's lesson focused on the Lisbon Mummy. Mercer read material about an ancient mummy in Spain that pointed scientists in the direction of genetics and which may hold clues to curing cancer. Mercer completed various activities and questions about the discovery of the Lisbon Mummy and its effective preservation of an unknown man who lived in Egypt in 200-300 B.C. The injuries sustained to this unknown man's tissue and bones showed that he may have died from cancer. Discovering cancer during this time may help scientists figure out how it was caused.

Mercer began class with an 8-minute run and a 2-minute cool down walk. Next, he completed 60 total sit-ups: 2 sets of 10 and 2 sets of 20. Mercer focused on using the correct form: feet flat on the ground, knees shoulder width apart, and full extension forward and backward.
