There was a scheduling conflict. I was originally scheduled to have Dane, and Chef John mixed up his schedule and was working with Dane. So, I took Mercer for the hour.
We played some combinations of rudimental sticking patterns at different speeds. We also discussed the importance of proper stick grip, as well as different types of grips used in drumming. We discussed, in particular, the historical significance of the traditional grip, the reason it was developed, and looked at some video examples of its use in both older and modern playing.
Today’s lesson focused on leaders in Greece. Mercer reviewed a brief introduction to Alexander the Great, his accomplishments, and how he conquered many territories. He answered questions about the region of Mesopotamia, where Alexander learned about astronomy, and whether he was a good guy or a ruthless leader. He spent the remainder of class learning fun facts about Spain and its population.

I was asked to sub for Chef John with Mercer today, Wednesday, 5-11-22 for 1 hour from 2:30 - 3:30. There was a mix-up in the schedule (double-booking with me and Chef John) as I originally had Mercer on my schedule from 12:30 - 1:30 as did Chef John but Mercer had cooking with Chef John so I took Mercer the later hour as Chef John was unable to stay late.
