Today's lesson focused on the earliest humans. Mercer read material that presented details about the Stone age. Mercer discussed the difference between the paleolithic, neolithic, and Mesolithic periods. Mercer was a little unfocused today but was able to complete his work.
Mercer began class with a jump rope and jumping jack warmup. Next, he completed various agility ladder exercises, which focuses on speed, agility, and quickness.
We took turns reading from papers which discussed Native American
cultures and contributions to colonial society. We then assessed the vocabulary and grammar of a paragraph Mercer had written.
Test on Unit 1.
Lesson 2 Scientific Tools and Measurement:
We learned to collect and record data using the international system of units (SI). We understand which metric units are used for volume, mass, and weight. Then we learned the importance of using the standardized units for scientists. We learned how to use several scientific tools such as a triple beam balance, thermometer, and graduated cylinder. We measured and recorded the mass, temperature, and volume of several items several times.
We learned how to convert units with the SI prefixes. Then we practiced putting numbers into scientific notation.
Today's lesson focused on unit tests for cultures around the world. Mercer reviewed unit material about cultures, customs, and global interdependence around the world. Mercer completed his unit test.

Mercer began exercises from the 6th grade math Envision textbook, Dividing and Multiplying Decimals. We also played two games of chess since research has shown that playing this game can help in understanding various math topics. Mercer's skill in chess playing has really improved over the last year. He won both games today.
