Timing is everything in creating a soundtrack for a scene. Today Christopher picked up where he left off yesterday, creating a track and writing lyrics.
Substitute: Working on a movie soundtrack for credits and opening scene. We found royalty free music and downloaded a metal riff. Christopher wrote his own lyrics and recorded a track. Very impressive!
Last minute substitute: Acting and filming, we learned how to "act" like a dog, imitate his pet, Alitta, and screen record a video with Quicktime or Screen Record through his control panel on his iPad remotely.
Capturing sound for his movie compilation and laying down a track that works for his spearfishing clips, Dutch has some difficulty staying focused on the task at hand. He is very proficient shooting underwater. He is an accomplished spear-fisherman and underwater filmmaker. Today we are focused on laying down tracks in Premiere Pro editing software, capturing sound, cutting transitions, titles and exporting formats for YouTube.
Today we took an in-depth look at the role of a film director in making movies. An introduction through The New York Times Director's Round Table, we began a discussion about the role of director and Sebastian's aspirations as a filmmaker. Since, Sebastian has an ease of editing, acting, writing and directing his films, he also has a very specific vision for the way his films are created. We are working on his ability to collaborate with a crew of people and still maintain his sense of accomplishment in the filmmaking process. His ideas run in a linear way, one movie idea in front of the next, with some experimentation in character action. He has been exploring stunts in collaboration with other students to encourage a sense of play and improvisation in the interpretation of his script notes and dialogue. Shooting these segments has allowed him to imagine other possible scenarios to his script blueprint.
Today Chris came to class with enthusiasm, fully prepared with CDs and costume, getting ready to create his own soundtrack, using the Garage Band app on his phone. We captured several tracks off CDs that he plans to cut and shape for his own voice. He is also working on a cover and logo for his band. It was a pleasure to see him so focused and positive in the process today. He is really very talented and sophisticated in his approach to creating all aspects of a FILM and performance. I encourage him to pursue executive producing as a career. His collaboration skills have improved with his "crew" and he continues to become more and more mature in his working with other student/collaborators.
