In today's class, Bella worked on a pre-lab activity for a lab that we will be conducting tomorrow. This pre-lab contains topics and questions that help prepare Bella for the lab, including things such as forming a hypothesis, determining the independent and dependent variable, and answering supporting questions about fermentation. This will tie directly into our lab tomorrow.
The United States Supreme Court is the highest judicial court in the country. Supreme Court justices are federal judges nominated by the U.S. president and approved through the U.S. Senate. Currently, there are nine Supreme Court justices although that number varied from six to ten prior to 1869. To become a Supreme Court Justice, a candidate must first be nominated by the President. The Senate Judiciary Committee investigates the nominee and holds hearings to hear witnesses testify in favor or opposition to the candidate. The committee will return a vote of confirmation, rejection, or no recommendation. Finally, the U.S. Senate votes on the candidate; a nominee must have a majority vote from the 100-member Senate before taking the oath as a Supreme Court justice.
Today, Bella and I began class with more "Calisthenics for the Brain" exercises. We continued working on our Othello characteristic chart. We used this information to write a well-crafted paragraph analyzing the language by which Othello has been introduced during Scene 1.
Columbus Day - origin of the holiday - mass lynching of 11 sicilians in the south.
different versions of his name in English, Spanish, Italian.
Columbus and Amerigo Vespucci-his boats
the earlier Viking arrival-
Columbus & debate over who he mistreated-
later pardon and last funded voyage-
In today's class, Bella finished her activities on cellular respiration and photosynthesis, including reading guided passages on the material and answering questions based off of the readings. These activities help reinforce what Bella has already learned.
Today, Bella and I created a table cataloguing all the terms used to describe Othello in Scene 1. In the table, we properly cited the term, indicated which aspect of Othello is being referred to, who spoke the line, and what it says about the speaker.
During today's class, we divided the class into two periods. During the first period, we continued watching the movie that we started last week and we used the second period to discuss the movie in Spanish.
Presidential Decision Making - How National & Partisan Decision-Making Shape Decisions
Lesson Outline
A president must exercise wise decision making, which is simply the thought process of selecting a logical choice from the available options. Presidential decision making is a complicated process because presidents must seek to balance the needs of their national supporters, their party supporters and the general public. When making a decision, the president must consider the national constituency, or the group of voters the president represents. Since the president represents our entire country, he or she must act within the national interest, or the best interests of the nation. The president must also balance the needs of his or her partisan constituency, or the members of the president's political party. The president serves as the head of his/her political party and needs the support of party legislators in order to enact proposed legislation.
