Loved working with Jaydn. She is a hard worker and seemed to like and understand the assignment. I chose a mysterious image and had her do a writing exercise that creates a scenario in which this picture could fit into.
The plan was to define polygons in an exact way. We were then going to review the names of polygons with different numbers of sides. We were going to distinguish between convex polygons and non-convex polygons. Unfortunately, Jaydn was not able to attend class today so I will have to repeat the class when Jaydn is feeling better. There was no assignment.

Today we explored the Industrial Revolution in Great Britain. We looked at reasons for Britain's industrial leadership, trends in its industry, and the results of industrialization on British society. Great Britain is just a little island, only about the size of Louisiana, but as the 19th century approached, it had become a major economic and military power. Its empire covered about a quarter of the land in the entire world and controlled trade networks and colonies all over the globe. How could this happen? Great Britain became a powerful empire because it was the birthplace and leading force in the Industrial Revolution, which was a cultural and economic shift from home-based production, traditional agriculture, and manual labor to a system of factory-based manufacturing that included complex machinery, continual technological growth, new energy sources, and developments in transportation. As the Industrial Revolution took hold, Great Britain turned its attention from the rural home to the urban factory and from human power to mechanical power, and it grew so wealthy that it was able to expand and extend its influences across seas and continents. Great Britain was the birthplace and leading force of the Industrial Revolution, which was a cultural and economic shift from home-based production, traditional agriculture, and manual labor to a system of factory-based manufacturing that included complex machinery, continual technological growth, new energy sources, and developments in transportation. Many factors contributed to Britain's dominance, including agricultural changes, a population boom, economic innovations, new ideas and a scientific viewpoint, transportation foundations, natural resources, a supportive government, and a trade network with numerous colonies. The British textile industry led the way in industrialization as several inventions spurred the rise of factories and massive increases in population. Developments in steam power and the iron industry also boosted Britain's industrial growth. The Industrial Revolution made a major impact on British society as factories spread, cities grew, workers faced harsh conditions at work and at home, and transportation flourished. As the 19th century approached, Great Britain was the 'Workshop of the World' and a major power. We ended the lesson focusing on how and when the Industrial Revolution came to the U.S. Jayden took two quizzes in class today. The first quiz was about the start of the Industrial Revolution in Great Britain and on that quiz Jaydn scored 80%. The second quiz was on the Industrial Revolution spreading to and beginning in the U.S. On that quiz Jaydn scored 100%.

Today was the first day we had history class this week. Jayden did not complete her last HW assignment assigned on Friday last week. Therefore, we worked on it together. Jaydn says that her Dr. has adjusted her medications as they were treating her for hypothyroidism and meds. have now been adjusted to treat hyperthyroidism. Hopefully, Jaydn will feel better soon. Do we have any sense of when Jaydn may be returning for in person learning? If she is not able to return soon, it would be very helpful for Jaydn to get her World History textbook to use at home. Can Andrew bring it home to Jaydn? Also, if Jaydn is going to continue with remote learning, is it possible for us to engage with her visually online? Just thinking of things that will only help Jaydn with her learning. Thank you.
I introduced the topic of intersections and unions of geometric sets to Jaydn. We then applied the set notations to the number lines and used the intersections of line segments to construct geometric figures. There was no assignment.

Jaydn had trouble concentrating during the lesson. It was difficult for her to follow the topics.
We began by building on yesterday's introduction to sight-singing, dealing with rhythms, close pitches, then combinations. Jaydn made excellent progress. We then sang several carefully chosen vocal exercises and sang the Japanese song "Sakura".

The first hour was due to me substituting for another teacher. Jaydn was obviously (unsurprisingly) tired after 90 mins and chose to stop and rest. She'd worked VERY hard!
We learned about isotopes, mass number, and average atomic mass. We practiced how to calculate average atomic mass of an element given the isotopes mass and relative abundance. We talked about mass spectrometry too.
