Jaydn read, discussed, and analyzed chapter 24 of The Great Alone. Upon completion, she free wrote on the topic of despair, as that is the tone of this chapter. She then reviewed and practiced in context the SAT vocabulary being studied. She completed a section assessment.
Jaydn did not respond to multiple Teams calls and texts for our 4th period class today. I alerted Elise at 12:45 and Elise texted the mom, but Jaydn still did not respond.
The Cuban Revolution took place between 1953 and 1959. It saw the forces of Fidel Castro take on the government of Fulgencio Batista, the military dictator of Cuba. With a small force, Castro used guerrilla tactics, waging war through ambushes, raids, and hit-and-run attacks. This proved fruitful, and soon Castro had amassed an army of thousands to whom he promised freedom. In 1958, Castro began an offensive. Traveling north, he won victories at the Battles of Yaguajay and Santa Clara. Hearing of this, Batista fled the country, and Castro was declared victorious. Sadly, Castro never made good on his promise of freedom. Instead, he allied with the Communist Party and the Soviet Union. With this, he created a long lasting regime of cruelty, which still exists today.
Jaydn read, discussed, and analyzed chapter 24 of The Great Alone. Jaydn then began the outline of an essay answering the prompt: Are Leni and her mother's actions justified? Jaydn found text from the novel to support her point of view and to use in her close reading analysis.
I demonstrated for Jaydn how angles of triangles and quadrilaterals can be determined if the figures include one or two tangent lines to circles. Due to the perpendicular relationship between a radius line and a tangent to the circle, a 90 degree angle can be shown to be at least one of the angles. I also showed her how segment lengths of tangent lines to a circle from external points are equal. We worked on several problems requiring the angles and segment lengths. There was no assignment.

Jaydn worked hard throughout the lesson. She answered questions about angles that were formed and how to determine missing angles.
Jaydn continued reading, discussing, and analyzing The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah. She wrote a paragraph analyzing the change in attitude in the character of Leni and the effects this might have on her mother and father. Jaydn used text to support her opinions.
I administered the math section of the Pearson Standardized Test to Jaydn. She started working on the test and worked hard the entire session. I collected her answer sheet and materials at 5 minutes before the end of class. She had not finished at that time. There was no assignment.
