kites
Lesson Outline
The plan was to explain how kites are related to the other parallelograms and to show the unique properties of kites. I would then explain how to find different values in kites, such as angles, sides, and diagonals. Unfortunately, Jaydn was not available when attempts were made to contact her for the lesson. There was no assignment.

The Weimar Republic: Strengths, Weaknesses & Collapse
Lesson Outline
As we continue with our study of the years between WWI & WWII, today we looked at Germany between the wars. The Weimar Republic was a democratic German government that was ultimately ineffective because of its crippling war debt and political instability. The Treaty of Versailles required Germany to pay war reparations and, in the early 1920s, the Weimar Republic began printing large amounts of money to pay its debt. This, however, made the currency worthless. These operations continued until 1929, when the Wall Street stock market collapsed, leading to the Great Depression . This spurred foreign countries to stop lending Germany money. During this period, Adolf Hitler was able to rise from political obscurity and become chancellor of Germany. Eventually, he was able to declare that the Nazi Party was the only party in the country because he was able to convince enough Germans he would reverse the Treaty of Versailles. Most of Germany's people agreed that the treaty was the root cause of Germany's economic issues. There are many lessons to learn from this. One is that treaties need to be based on peace and not punishment. Also, people should never look towards authoritarian dictators to solve their country's or their individual needs.

Hierarchy of Quadrilaterals

Jaydn and I reviewed the various definitions of the different quadrilaterals including parallelograms, rhombi, rectangles, squares, kites, and trapezoids. We then arranged them according to what properties they have in common and what differences they have. I then quizzed her with statements about different quadrilaterals that she had to confirm or deny. There was no assignment.

The Russian Revolution
Lesson Outline
What happens in Russia once the Romanov leaders are overthrown? We focused today on what happens in Russia after 1917. Vladimir Lenin (1870-1924) was a Russian political philosopher, revolutionary, and politician. Followers of his brand of Communism, inspired by the Karl Marx' and Friedrich Engels' anti-capitalist ideas, were called Bolsheviks. In February 1917 during WWI, a revolution overthrew the monarchy when Czar Nicholas II was forced to abdicate the thrown. Bolsheviks led by Lenin took power in a military coup in November 1917. The Bolsheviks/Communists renamed the country the Soviet Union (or USSR). Even after the end of an autocratic and often brutal monarchy, Russia/the USSR remains a repressive, totalitarian one-party state. Instead of a royal authoritarian leader, after 1917 the leader of Russia becomes a communist authoritarian leader. Lenin's interpretation of Marxism, modified by Joseph Stalin and known as Marxism-Leninism, became Soviet Union's official ideology.
