Spain's dysfunctional government and unstable economy were both impacted by the Great Depression. In the 1930s, the people of Spain voted to make Spain a republic, though trouble arrived when Spaniards had to decide exactly what type of republic they wanted. The socialist reforms carried out by the left-wing Popular Front were vehemently opposed by the traditional landowning classes and the church, who encouraged a right-wing response. Political instability and civil war plagued Spain for most of the 1930s. After the nationalist revolt began, the right-wing response became fascist in nature under General Francisco Franco. Franco's eventual triumph in early 1939 spelled doom for thousands of Spanish republicans, communists, and political dissidents. His government carried out major crackdowns on communists, socialists, and other political dissidents. Though estimates vary, approximately 100,000 republican prisoners were either executed or died in concentration camps following Franco's victory. The life savings of many evaporated, crushing the middle class that grew during the 1920s. Although Roosevelt's New Deal helped, it would take the economic boom spurred by the wartime production of WWII to truly lead the economic recovery. The Great Depression impacted the economies of many countries around the world from England, France and Germany in Western Europe sweeping around the world to Asia. Nearly every nation and its people suffered from this great economic catastrophe that began in 1929, with effects that made life difficult for people around the world for almost the entire decade of the 1930s

Resistance in Turkey and India Between World Wars - The early 20th century is often seen as the beginning of the end of the colonial era. While the victorious allied powers succeeded in breaking up the Ottoman Empire, Turkish nationalists, led by Mustafa Kemal Atäturk, were successful at maintaining a Turkish state regardless of the allies' intentions. Likewise, the non-violent protests of the Indian National Congress and Mahatma Gandhi fostered the growth of Indian nationalism and an aversion to strict British rule. Both such movements wanted to create self-governing countries both by and for the people who actually lived in the region.

I showed Jaydn how the properties of kites connects them to other quadrilaterals. By doing so I was able to show her how to calculate the individual side lengths and angles in kites. I also asked her to decide certain true-false questions and answer sometimes-always-never questions about kites. There was no assignment.
