Jaydn read, analyzed, and discussed two chapters of A Thousand Splendid Suns. She wrote a paragraph describing the developing relationship between the two main characters using text for support. She then reviewed SAT vocabulary introduced before the break.
Properties of Parallelograms and angle-side proportions in triangles
Lesson Outline
I worked some problems with Jaydn to prove quadrilaterals to be parallelograms or not based on opposite sides and angles. We also examined how angles' opposite sides were in proportion to the size of the angles. We did some problems demonstrating this property. There was no assignment.

Lesson Comments
This was a very good session with Jaydn. She worked through several complex problems to get the required answers. She is gaining confidence as she answers more questions.
Jaydn continued the reading and analyzing of the novel being studied. She discussed the character development of the foil and its effect on the two main characters' development. She then continued her study of SAT vocabulary and used the words in a short written paragraph.
The End of the Romanov Dynasty and the 1st Phase of the Russian Revolution
Lesson Outline
Nicholas II, the last Tsar of Russia, was a reluctant and unfortunately for his people, empire and family, a pretty incompetent emperor. By the beginning of the 20th century, he should have been a more enlightened ruler and yet he was committed to autocratic rule and resisted working with the Duma (Russia's parliament). Historians agree that Nicholas II was too immature and lacked leadership skills. Under his rule, Russia lost access to the warm water Port Arthur in the 1905 Russo-Japanese War. This was a humiliating defeat for Russia. In January, 1905, the Russian police fired into a crowd of peaceful protesters (asking for better working conditions), killing 234 and injuring 800 people. The Russian public was outraged. In 1914, the Tsar declares was on Germany, entering WWI, subjecting Russia to severe military losses, a collapse of morale, strikes and mutinies by 1917. The royal family's connection to Rasputin also damaged their public image. After Nicholas II abdicates in 1917, he and his family are taken prisoner and Russia plunges into civil war. In July, Nicholas II and his family are brutally murdered by the Bolsheviks on the order of Vladmir Lenin.
Today we are looking at the purpose of this work, which is to improve the reader, spiritually and as a whole. We are comparing the work to Dicken's masterpiece, Christmas Carol.
