I assisted Joshua in formulating a conclusion for his first essay response . During the remainder of the session, Joshua completed the final test on the novel, a second essay .
Today Joshua and I reviewed his work. He had difficulty with this assignment. We reworked each of the problems together, so Joshua could fill the gaps in his misunderstanding. Then we pulled problems from AP Classroom. After today, I realized that I dislike the way I first presented this concept to Joshua. Tomorrow, I am going to take a step back and re-introduce this material the way I usually teach it in Algebra 2. I think Joshua will have a better understanding of it. Then we can bring in the AP problems.
Continue with nomenclature of branched alkanes. Joshua needed to draw the skeletal structures from the organic formulas, and vice versa. Examined and corrected formulas when needed, and discussed some uses for these compounds
Joshua presented the last composer - Strauss - Finished Lebenslauf (resume) assignment and 5 sentences assignment about the weekend in the past tense - went over corrections on the whiteboard. Listened to authentic German dialogues and answered questions online.

Excellent class today. Joshua was even ready to go at 8:58 called me.
Today we began the first lesson in Unit 2 on Arithmetic and Geometric sequences. We first watched a video showing how patterns could be added/subtracted (Arithmetic) or multiplied/divided (Geometric). We worked to write rules to represent these patterns. After writing the rules, we used them to determine the 100th terms. This is an Algebra 2 concept, however it's been a while since Joshua has been exposed to it. He says he dislikes this topic, however I think it will become easier for him with practice.
Have Joshua attempt to construct using the molecular models, the structural formula of the C6H12 alkane. If unable after a few tries, write the structure on the board and show that it is a cyclic structure called cyclohexane. Complete by writing the ways of abbreviating the formula, then how to name the molecule when substitutions are added.

Joshua came very close to producing the correct molecular model
We reviewed Joshua's homework on Steinbeck's use of imagery in the novel. We discussed how imagery enhances theme as when ,for example, Steinbeck uses figurative language to describe Lennie in terms of various large unthinking animals. In preparation for tomorrow's test, I further reviewed how the Edenic imagery mirrors a mythological America that has been corrupted by Man. Last, as an exercise on identifying imagery and its component figurative language, I distributed a portion of a short story by Steinbeck. Joshua did well in identifying the suffusive imagery in the passage.
