We will wrap up our study of differential equations. We will look ahead at the applications of integrals chapter because it is where about 24% of the AP test will come from.

After our broad review of A2 level skills, Joshua started to review the perfect tense, particularly the use of the auxiliary verb 'sein' with certain verbs. He completed a few different exercises.
We also spent some time conversing about the past weekend.
As Joshua will be reading Huck Finn over the break ,today I provided instruction on the novel to assist analysis in the reading. After discussing some biographical information about Mark Twain , I placed on the board a chart : Society& Convention // Huck's unique perspective. I discussed how the society Twain portrays in the novel is one that hypocritically embraces both religion and slavery and we studied Twain's satiric depiction of Christianity . I noted how Huck's rejection of these traditional norms along with the author's use of dialect make the novel distinctively an American novel, perhaps the first real American novel that featured common people. As Huck grapples with society's norms in the face of his own developing morality we examined how the conflict bewtween Man and Society and Man vs himself (an internal debate of conscience) are catalysts for Huck's character transformation. I also noted the symbolic significance of settings -town or land vs the river and the raft. We will continue with this analysis tomorrow.
Introduction to sound and light waves. Discuss waves being formed by vibrations. Show that sound requires a medium which light does not require. Define vibrations. Demonstrate using a pendulum how the length of the pendulum affects the period but not the mass of the pendulum. Define period. Discuss units used in defining frequency, (vibrations/sec and cycles/sed) Relate them both to Hertz units. Eliitc that the period is equivalent to 1/frequency of the wave
Discuss the quantum numbers used to describe the orbits for atoms. List and explain the principal quantum number and what it describes, the angular momentum quantum number and its description, and the magnetic quantum number. Describe sub shells and orbitals for each, along with maximum electron numbers for each orbital.
Ue diagrams to demonstrate orbital shapes. Discuss each orbital viewed and the electron cloud seen in the s orbitals. Discuss the distances from the nucleus and the boundary surface. Describe the shapes formed by the orbitals and the number of electrons maximum within each orbital.
We continue to focus on writing an interpretative thesis analyzing the function of symbolism and the extended metaphor . Using Frost's "The Road not Taken ,and Ah Sunflowers as our references, Joshua worked on composing an AP style first paragraph for each poem. I then provided instruction on incorporating how poetic structure , one sentence stanzas for example, complement the extended metaphor of the road in the Frost poem.
We will do more example problems involving growth and decay. We will do problems involving logistics functions which are closely related to growth and decay problems.

Lesson Comments
We completed the growth and decay problems and we started logistics functions. These are both a result of solving certain differential equations.
