Review that the heat of reaction is due to the sum of the heats of formation of the products minus the heats of formation of the reactants. Continue with example to be calculated from last week, then determine the heat of reaction for the combustion of benzene.
Define and discuss momentum in terms of inertia and motion. Discuss how momentum is defined as mass and velocity. Review impulse, change in velocity and acceleration as it applies to impulse. Determine how force and time are involved with changing momentum. Introduce force x time affects the change in momentum MV.
We will discuss the assigned problems on page 287-9. Antiderivatives are emphasized in these problems so they will be a good review of the process. We will begin the study of area as it relates to integrals.

We reviewed the assigned problems. We started looking at the topic of area. We discussed the area of a circle as the limit of the area of polygons with an infinite number of sides.
Today we focused on essay writing for the AP exam. I provided instruction on forming a thematic interpretative thesis, using commentary to explain the evidence supporting the thesis, and last using transition words to create a line of reasoning. We then carefully reviewed Joshua's recent essay on "The Cathedral" and worked on applying the lesson objectives. As Joshua is still having difficulty with the interpretative aspect of the AP course, I assisted in forming the thesis statement and provided examples of evidence he could incorporate to support the thesis. He will rewrite the essay for homework.
