Lesson Comments
We completed review problems of every type in chapter three except differentials. We will be ready to move on to chapter 4 next week.
Session Date
Lesson Topic
specific heat capacity
Lesson Outline
Review definition of specific heat capacity. From the written formula, define and explain all the variables involved. Set up 2 specific heart problems to be solved in class. Discuss how each known and unknown variable is involved in the answer, along with the correct units. Discuss the importance of using the correct sign for each problem, and the consequences.

Unit 7- Short fiction /longer synthesis /character/setting
Lesson Outline
We first studied the text of "The Open Boat" to locate textual evidence for tonight's essay work-the sea as a character in the story whose function is to convey theme. We noted the many adjectives and use of figurative language as well as the narrator's perspective interpreting the sea as a universal force of nature that is violent and indifferent to Mankind or his suffering.Next, as Joshua was unable to answer the essay test question, I provided instruction to assist him. I first reviewed the AP definition of "complex perspective" and then with Joshua parsed the text passage to reveal and explain the tension between the narrator's desire to honor and recall a deceased friend from the war and the impossibility of capturing the fallen soldier's essence,.

Differentials
Lesson Outline
We will do an optimization problem to begin the class. We will do several differentials problems. One will be to find the differentials of a given function. One will be to use the tangent line to a curve to estimate a value. We will also do a problem of estimating a value and determining the percent error of the estimate.

We completed the problems successfully. We have completed the material for Unit 3, and we will review the concepts starting tomorrow.
Session Date
Lesson Topic
specific heat capacity
Lesson Outline
Elicit how a change in temperature is proportional to the quantity of thermal energy gained or lost by an object. Energy is gained or lost has heat in joules. Define specific heat capacity. Introduce the formula to determine energy gained or lost by a given mass. Introduce and discuss specific heat capacity numbers. Discuss positive and negative changes in kelvin temperature. Solve a problem to calculate energy transferred by a metal object (copper) using the specific specific heat capacity for copper.

momentum
Lesson Outline
Discuss momentum and inertia in motion. Identify momentum a property to resist change in motion. Relate that inertia is proportional to mass. Discuss the formula momentum = mass x velocity. Introduce impulse as a change in momentum which is affected by mass and/or velocity. Show how an increase in force yields an increase in velocity change, yields an acceleration which can lead to a change in momentum.

Unit 7- Short fiction /longer synthesis /character/setting
Lesson Outline
To begin our final unit on short fiction, I placed on the board the unit objectives: to explore character in terms of character change caused by a change of circumstances , values ,and/or epiphany. I further outlined how character can be shaped and defined by how a character interacts with a group and the group's attitude toward a character. We then analyzed Crane's short story "Open Boat" and located specific language and passages that reveal character change and character attitude toward the group.
