Discuss the nature of the reactants and how concentration can change the rate. Discuss the increased collisions due to increased concentration. Discuss the effect of surface area on reaction rate. Show why increasing the temperature will generally increase the rate of reaction by increasing the average kinetic energy. Discuss the effect of a catalyst on the activation energy.
Today Joshua and I moved onto 3.8 and discussed the Tangent function. We first recalled the coordinates around the unit circle. Then we evaluated the tangent values there. I explained that we get those values by dividing sine over cosine. Then we can use the unit circle values to come up with the graph of the tangent function. We came up with a way to determine where each horizontal asymptote was.
Today I gave Joshua a take home test for Unit 3A. We used the class time to do review problems. We started with a free response question, and then moved to multiple choice questions. We covered sinusoidal functions and their transformations.
Reviewed for vocabulary quiz on two German videos - Endhügel and Deutsche Kultur - Sport u Freizeit - Vokabeln Quiz - dann 7 Sätze über Frühlingsferien.
I provided additional biographical information about the author, Henry James, and emphasized his importance to American Literature . James graphically illustrated the differences between American and European culture and meticulously explored a character's consciousness. We analyzed how the novel uses an unknown first person narrator who relates the story and consciousness of Winterborne through a limited third person narration buried within the first person narration. We then examined the clash between American and European culture portrayed in the opening pages noting the diction and behaviors of Winterborne and Daisy's crass and parochial younger brother.
Joshua worked independently and carefully as he reviewed material about reaction rates in his book, and answered questions 1-4. In addition, he responded to questions requiring that he interpret data in solving equations. He had time to read page 586 Section 1 in his text and to answer questions 47 and 49.
