Oliver worked through a number of lessons on the online keyboarding training program. I was able to show Oliver how to gage his abilities in typing based on the word count typed per minute.
Today Marina continued working on the Alphabet Soup (N-Z)lesson. Today Marina typed an average of 14 words per minute. Marina should be able to complete this lesson tomorrow.
Today Oliver worked very hard to complete his PowerPoint presentation. He did his own typing. I taught him how to add clip art, change font size as well as slide layouts. Then he did an excellent job presenting the information he had learned.
Ethan used the www.typing.com/tutor/ website to practice the home row keys. He finished with the home row today and got a trophy! I continue to encourage him to try not to look down at his keys. If he positions his hands correctly, the computer program will tell him which finger to use to type the correct key. I suggest that Ethan continue to practice his keyboarding skills this summer in order to continue to make progress in the future.
Today Will continued to practice his tying of numbers and words. His speed is beginning to increase with typing numbers and is now able to type 11 (chunks of numbers) in a minute, compared to the original 9. For Example 36879 23568. Will then practiced letter typing with typing games.
After doing our keyboarding lesson on using the home row Oliver and I brainstormed some potential topics for research. We then reviewed the elements of a good paragraph and we wrote one together as I modeled for him.
After completing 3 short keyboarding lessons, Oliver poured himself into the creation of the PowerPoint presentation. He is very good with determining the order of the slides, wording the headings of each slide as well as deciding what relevant info to include. He learned how to add clip art to the slides as well. He needed periodic reminding to utilize proper keyboarding skills, as he wants to revert back to his old ways. Overall he is doing a great job with all concepts taught so far.
Bobby completed a review of all the keys and then completed a keyboarding assessment. He was graded based on accuracy and the overall score of the assessment rather than just for completion.
