I asked Lilly on a scale of 1-5 (l=low, 5=high) how confident she felt with her learning. She said 3.5, because she gets nervous when taking tests. Next week we are going to work with relaxation strategies during tests. Lilly wanted to focus on grammar and punctuation strategies, and so we read several different passages in the SAT manual. Lilly received an almost perfect score on her practice test. I encouraged her to continue practicing and reading the "Twilight" series of books she enjoys.

Lilly and I have almost finished all the practice tests in the SAT manual. The few mistakes she is making are from nerves, so my goal for her is to build her confidence with answering questions. Reading for fun has helped her, and I'm happy she has found a book series she likes. I believe she will be prepared for her test in a few weeks.
Lilly discovered a passion for the "Twilight" books and plans to read the entire series. I encouraged her to keep reading and am happy she found a passion for reading. She told me she feels confident with reading comprehension but would like to work on grammar. We practiced a fiction passage with reading comprehension since we have been reading nonfiction passages and spent the rest of the time studying passages in the SAT manual and what needed to be changed. Lilly said she feels more confident with finding the correct answers to grammar questions.

Lilly is an excellent student and prepared to take the SAT as she plans in August. She would rather read for fun instead of completing practice tests, but I encouraged her to keep working with the practice tests at home in her manual.
In this activity, Lily started a new practice exam. In the first exam of 20 questions she had 25 minutes to complete it and she used 27 minutes. On the second half she completed 15 questions and was ahead of schedule. She is completing the rest of the exam for homework. Again, she is doing very well.
We began the lesson with several articles discussing Lilly's favorite television show, "Grey's Anatomy" so she could practice finding the theme of an essay. We then analyzed a passage in the test review book about a research study that interested Lily. Lilly chose the correct answer the majority of the time and is well-prepared for her test. She admitted to not doing much review the past week, so I encouraged her to continue to review the concepts we discussed.

Lilly continues to excel with her test prep. Repetition and practice will make a difference for her.
In this activity, Lily completed a major portion of the calculator portion of the exam. Lily also has done very well pacing herself to complete the exam within the time limits.
We started the lesson with a fun inference activity where Lilly predicted how the characters from her favorite medical drama "Grey's Anatomy" would act. I then helped her transfer the skills to grammar. Lilly requested to work on grammar in context, and we discussed grammar strategies and how to determine whether a sentence is correct or not.

Lilly has mastered the skills she needs and I think she will do well on a retest if she focuses and continues to practice at home. Her goal of becoming a pediatric surgeon keeps her motivated and she asks detailed questions.
Lilly and I discussed several reading passages from the SAT prep book. I showed her test taking strategies, such as eliminating obviously incorrect answers and learning new vocabulary using prefixes and suffixes. We practiced reading passages and discussing why the answers were correct or incorrect.

Lily loves to learn and is inquisitive and intelligent. I used examples of how the doctors on her favorite television show "Grey's Anatomy" make a diagnosis and compared finding the correct answer in a list of multiple choice options to diagnosis.
In this activity, Lily completed 25 of 30 possible calculator questions in that portion of the SAT exam. I hope we have enough time to complete at least one more practice exam.
In this activity, we started with what are good SAT test strategies. We than completed the non calculator portion of the exam. Her math skills are are very good and she should do well on the exam with adequate practice.
