This morning, Atticus began the unit test with today's questions on operations with decimals. Atticus answered 3 questions each on adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing with decimals. All of the problems were familiar and had been solved during our lessons. Atticus appeared anxious and said he was getting sick and I don't believe his performance so far accurately reflects his abilities that were shown during our lessons. I will allow him to attempt the missed questions again and he will continue the test tomorrow.
Today's lesson focused on unit vocabulary and a famous anthropologists. Atticus reviewed material about the life of Margret Mead, a renowned anthropologist, and completed his vocabulary.

Atticus started off the class with his fifteen minute sketchbook prompt. We then moved into covering our next lesson. We went over how we will be studying Mexican art, Day of the Dead and Frida Kahlo. We read an article about the art created surrounding Day of the Dead, specifically Sugar Skulls. We then used the rest of class to go over the first assignment in this Unit. We will be creating our own sugar skulls from plaster and paint. We went over the step- by- step process and then chose a design for his skull.
During the first half of the session,Atticus completed the short answer portion of the final test on the novel. I then introduced our next novel, The Giver, by placing on the board definitions of utopia, dystopia, and the characteristics of dystopian societies. Atticus participated in recess for the final 15 minutes of the session.
Today, Atticus and I went back into the lab to observe several prepared slides, and also prepare a cheek cell slide, through the teacher/student microscope. We discussed our observations, which included viewing the nucleus, cell wall, cytoplasm, and bacteria on the cells. We practiced correctly manipulating and putting away the microscope and cleaning our work station.
I gave Atticus a character bio sheet. I worked with him to complete the first sheet. I conducted a review of the answers. We used the responses to design a refined version of his anti-hero character.
Today's lesson focused on identifying land masses. Atticus presented a map of different types of land formations. He participated in group discussions and completed activities with his peers.
