Lesson Comments
Atticus is ambitious about the sword, so I will take him on an educational journey through time to experience what it was like living and training as a samurai.
Today, Atticus completed last night's homework on solving rate problems during our class. Then, he continued with the lesson's practice and problem-solving questions on unit prices and unit rates. We focused on writing rates correctly and reviewed how to divide decimals to find unit rates. For homework over the break, Atticus was assigned problems on evaluating expressions using the order of operations.
We identified two literary devices in the novel: the use of the flashback in chapter 11 and the use of metaphor . Regarding the metaphor , I noted how in the fable genre , the author's comments can have two meanings, literal and metaphorical. Atticus then discerned how the author's comment concernting the attitude that "some things are better left alone" relates to the society in Germany that chose to ignore the unpleasant truths underlying the Nazi regime. Next, we reviewed Atticus' test on chapters 8-10 and reviewed questions that presented some difficulty . We examined the text to determine how some of the questions could have been answered more accurately. We further addressed grammatical issues contained in the answers.
