This morning, Atticus and I began by correcting his homework on evaluating expressions using the order of operations. He missed all of last night's questions and needed an in-depth review before he attempted the missed questions again. Then, we continued our recent lesson on rates by applying this concept to solving constant speed, unit price, and unit rate problems related to real-world scenarios. For homework, Atticus was assigned the lesson's practice and problem-solving questions.
Today, Atticus completed the lab, "Phase Changes." He measured the temperatures during 30 second intervals of ice heating and the states of matter present. He answered the follow up questions.
Atticus completed a test on chapters 8- 10 of the novel during today's session. After he completed his exam, we continued to work on spelling and suffix exercises addressing the "drop the silent "e" rule.
This morning, Atticus and I reviewed ratios, rates, unit rates, and unit prices as well as the practice and problem-solving questions on comparing unit rates from last night's homework. Then, Atticus completed the lesson's remaining real-world problem-solving questions and he worked online completing correlating problems on each of these concepts. Finally, Atticus took the lesson's quick quiz on comparing unit rates, scoring 100%. For homework, review problems on solving equations and evaluating expressions were assigned.
Atticus worked on his remaking of Starry Night. He is adding a bottom scene to the original, that is an underwater scene. We worked on the Starry Night sky for the duration of class and marked out his water.
We concentrated on the elements of characterization-direct and indirect and I distinguished characterization from discerning the function of a fable. Atticus then practiced writing characterizations of the Commandant and Bruno's teacher,Herr Litszt. We then discussed portions of the text wherein Bruno's thought process diverges from his father's anti-semitic orientation as Bruno perceives no difference between the Germans and their prisoners. Last, Atticus worked on a spelling and suffix exercise dealing with dropping the silent "e" and adding a vowel suffix.
