We first reviewed the elements of a fable :the teaching of a moral lesson and the use of broad stroked characters. I noted that as the novel is characterized by the author as a fable, the novel does not detail Nazi atrocities or the rise of antisemitism in Germany. In this regard,we studied Bruno's father as a broad stroked character who represents an evil force. We discussed how in the context of a fable Bruno's father is simultaneously an evil man and a loving father who has emotionally and financially assisted the family's housekeeper . I noted how the author suggests appearances can disguise evil .

Atticus responded to 4 discussion questions about his recently completed book ‘Out of My Mind.’ His responses were reflective and well thought out, indicating an exemplary understanding of the story.
Today, Atticus and I reviewed thermal expansion and contraction. He viewed a video on particle theory of matter and states of matter. We discussed how the particles behave in a solid, liquid and gas.
