Using chapter titles to discern chapter themes, we today examined Little Bear's boast of scalping 30 French soldiers in the French-Indian War of the 1700s. After discussing the practice of scalping and its brutality , we discussed whether cultural values of the 21rst Century should be applied in evaluating historical acts or behavior. We then examined the text and focusing on character development identified how Omri's language and behavior toward Little Bear sound like a parent caring for a child. During the remainder of the session, Atticus took a quiz on chapters. 1-3 of the novel.
This morning, we took time to work on Atticus's homework which he struggled with last night. We reviewed yesterday's lesson on using inverse relationships to solve addition and subtraction equations as well as the properties of equality. Atticus practiced solving equations by using the inverse operation and isolating the variable on one side to find its value. Atticus was more confident after our review and did a great job on the lesson's quick quiz, scoring 100%. For homework, he was assigned similar problems for additional review.
Atticus and I did a lesson on murals, public art and graffiti. We went over our new project that we will be doing participating in creating a Batt School Mural. Atticus started the first of three sketches, brainstorming ideas for the mural.

Life Science - Obtaining Energy and Removing Waste
Lesson Outline
Today, we learned about nutrients and completed a lab activity where we learned how to read and understand food labels. We identified the following nutrients on different food labels: protein, fat, sugar, carbohydrates, fiber, vitamin C, iron and calcium. We discussed how too much of one particular nutrient in your diet can be harmful to your health. Likewise, it is important to consume a variety of nutrients in order to give your cells what they need to be healthy.
Atticus and I reviewed his homework, correcting a few mistakes and clarifying the concept of keeping equations equal using the properties of equality. Then, he took the lesson's 5-questions quick quiz and scored a 100%. The next lesson was begun on writing and solving addition and subtraction equations using inverse relationships. Atticus solved equations, finding the unknown variable's value using inverse relationships, and was assigned similar problems from the lesson's practice and problem-solving.
