Atticus and I reviewed last night's homework, a quiz on graphing points on a coordinate plane. He wrote ordered pairs, graphed points, located and identified points, and reflected points across the axes. Atticus seems to rush with his homework, making careless errors that he easily corrected in class and earned him a 70%. Our lesson looked at how to find distances on the coordinate plane using absolute value when two points share one axis point. Atticus was assigned the lesson's practice and problem-solving questions for homework.

The Giver/Essay Writing
Lesson Outline
During our first session, we explored the Giver's role of imparting all of society's past history and memories to Jonas. We discussed why this dystopian society has elected to erase the concept of history and why a knowledge of history/memories is indispensable to the acquisition of wisdom. In this regard we defined "wisdom". During our second session,we continued to work on writing the literary essay. I distributed a prompt that included directions for forming a topic sentence and for structuring the essay. We spent time carefully studying the prompt and instructions after which Atticus drafted an essay outline and an introductory paragraph .

Life Science - The Cell
Lesson Outline
Today, we continued discussing the 6 characteristics of living things. To reinforce the concept of cellular organization of multicellular organisms, we drew an outline of a human body, then drew organs in the body, then drew cells within each of those different organs. We observed that each organ in a living body is composed of different kinds of cells that all have a unique job to do to help keep the organism alive.

Lesson Outline
This morning, Atticus and I reviewed a few missed questions from a quiz that he took before he left. We focused on his understanding of how to name points on a number line as decimals and fractions, which relates to graphing ordered pairs and naming points on a coordinate grid. Our lesson reviewed how to represent rational numbers on the coordinate plane. Together, we answered the lesson's problem-solving questions and Atticus graphed and labeled points from the assessment practice. He was assigned a 5 question quiz on the lesson's material for homework.
