An Underwater Cemetary in the FL Keys?
Lesson Outline
An underwater cemetery has recently been discovered off Dry Tortugas National Park in the FL Keys. An archaeological team has found the remains of a 19th century quarantine hospital and cemetery on a submerged island in this National Park in FL. We viewed National Park Service photos and artist renditions of the area. While only one grave has been identified, historical records indicate dozens of people — mostly U.S. soldiers stationed at Fort Jefferson — may have been buried at the site in waters west of Key West, Florida. A research group discovered the grave of John Greer, a laborer who died on Nov. 5, 1861. This intriguing find highlights the potential for untold stories in Dry Tortugas National Park, both above and below the water. Efforts are continuing to learn more about others buried on the submerged island. Fort Jefferson was a military prison during the Civil War. Surrounding islands included a naval outpost, a lighthouse, naval hospital, quarantine facility and a site for military training. The fort became a Marine Hospital between 1890 and 1900. An isolation hospital was on a nearby island. The National Parks Service and the University of Miami are partnering to uncover and learn all they can about the new discoveries in the Dry Tortugas National Park.

Connective tissue
Lesson Outline
This morning, Cameron worked on Lecture 4/Part 2 about connective, muscle, and nervous tissue. He read about the characteristics that differentiate connective tissues from other primary tissues, such as muscle, bone, and nerve tissues. Cameron concluded the session reading about the structural elements of different types of connective tissue cells, and examples and different criteria for the categorization and classification of glands. Cameron worked independently and was cooperative and amenable when discussing the work during our time together. Today's session will serve as a precursor to tomorrow's session covering material about the skeletal system.

History of the Biltmore Estate
Lesson Outline
The Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina is not far from Cameron's grandparents' home. We explored some of the indoor and outdoor visuals today. It was built for George Washington Vanderbilt II between 1889 and 1895. It's the largest privately owned house in the US and it's still owned by Vanderbilt's descendants. Opened on Christmas Eve, 1895 this Gilded Age mansion cost $5 million (today's equivalent of $180 million) to construct. After Vanderbilt's death in 1914, his wife carried out her husband's wish that the property become part of the Pisgah National Forest. Overwhelmed with running the large estate, she sold much of it in 1921. To balance the estate's finances during the Great Depression, the Biltmore opened to the public in 1930 to bring tourism to Asheville, but it closed during World War II. Since 1956 the Biltmore House ceased to be a family residence and has since been a destination museum with magnificent gardens.

Topic 9 Solving Quadratic Equations
Lesson Outline
Cameron practiced plotting a linear and a quadratic equation to identify the number of solutions from where the line crossed the parabola. Then he practiced elimination to find the coordinates algebraically. There are a few steps to finding the solutions so Cameron will need to practice on his own. It is important for Cameron to complete the following homework assignment in order for him to do well on the quiz from this lesson and test from this topic.
Assignment: Homework in textbook page 401 numbers 28 – 31
