Prediction
Lesson Outline
We recalled where we left off in the book we're reading. Liam remembered we were on Chapter 6 and we turned to the page to read. There were several events that the author set up to allow for predictions, and Liam accurately predicated the consequences of the actions that were established by the author. He was excited as this was a chapter when one of the main characters found himself lost in the school and ended up in the girl's bathroom. Liam said the book was very funny and he is looking forward to resuming reading it after break. We organized the events that transpired and noted actions and consequences on the whiteboard. Liam helped me complete the chart, afforded supportive prompts as necessary. I encouraged him to reflect on and relate to some of the events and interactions. He remained engaged and did well on this activity.

Comprehension/Organization of thought/Vocabulary
Lesson Outline
Liam and I read Chapter 5 in Louis Sachar's book, 'There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom.' I asked Liam to go back to the previous chapter to refresh and activate prior learning, and Liam generally remembered the main parts of the chapter. We continued reading, but Liam asked me to read today. He followed along and was queried at parts to assess his understanding. I explained several more allusive, oblique remarks one of the characters said to clarify the author's intent. I explained the word 'modest,' and offered Liam an example related to academic performance to which he could relate. Liam's favorite character is still Bradley and he stated his reasons. Liam took a quick multiple-choice quiz and got 4 out of 5 answers correct.
