Luke has been reallly interested in bulding Geographical puzzles, so we located and named some European countries, and listened to some traditional music from them.
We played some basic rhythms on the practice pad and drumset. We played along to several Disney songs that Jason likes. We played on the hand percussion instrument. We discussed some Latin percussion instruments, and learned about the Brazilian Cuica, or "monkey drum." We will be making some of our own percussion instruments this year, and learning about what countries they are from, as well as how to play them.
Today we will walk around the playground using the drumsticks to create rhythms and beats on the equipment.
Returning to the music room, play songs and practice keeping the rhythm.

Lesson Comments
Jason played and drummed a bit. This was a good idea but I don't think Jason appreciated the variety of sounds that different objects and rhythms can make.
Today Matthew showed me the skill set he's developed in music class. He loved playing Mario and also performed several other songs. He did a great job! Halfway through class, the preschoolers came into the cafeteria and invited us to join in for a game of Headbandz. Matthew needed to be redirected a few times (when middle schoolers came in for water, he used the headband like a switch and repeatedly hit a student with it, ignoring my instructions to stop, he used the headband to lift up the bench while another student was sitting on it and broke the headband game piece).
