Jase read the next chapter in ‘Trapped in A Video Game’ with our primary focus being self-monitoring for errors and self-correcting. We also practiced breaking apart multi-syllable words and blending sounds.
Jase and I began our session with checking his homework. Jase then completed a warm-up activity - reviewing fourth-grade skills. Jase had difficulty with the definition of volume, capacity conversions, identifying shapes, and fractions. Jase completed an activity on decimals - coloring the tens and ones to show each number. Jase had difficulty with this concept - receiving 2/6. I modeled an example and provided Jase with additional practice for homework. For homework, Jase will complete two activities - coloring the tens and ones to show each number and writing the decimal for each picture.
Assignment
Complete two activities - color the tens and ones to show each number and write the decimal for each picture.
Jase and I began our session with checking his homework - Jase got them all correct. Excellent job! Jase then completed a warm-up activity - reviewing fourth-grade skills. Jase had difficulty with identifying 1/2 of a number, parallel lines, time, and adding money. Jase then completed three activities on decimals - reviewing Lesson 1.4 - coloring tenths to represent the number (4/4), drawing a line to match the word from standard form to word form (7/8), and writing the decimal for each picture - hundredths (6/8). For homework, Jase will complete two activities - writing the value of the underlined digit (11 problems) and writing the decimal for each picture (9 problems). Jase does wonderfully completing his homework. Great job!

Jase continued reading ‘Trapped in a Video Game,’ resuming with chapter 9. Our focus while reading was reading accurately, monitoring, and self-correcting errors without prompting. We also practiced breaking multi-syllable words and blending syllables.
Jase learned three more consonant digraphs: ck, ng and gh. He completed a fill in the blank story selecting the correct digraphs to complete the words. He read the complete story orally.

Lesson Comments
Jase is a hard worker. However, at times it can be difficult to teach him 5th-grade material when it seems that he does not know 4th-grade material. Jase struggles with multi-digit addition and subtraction, multiplication, and division. I am continuing fifth-grade material in our workbook, but I bumped down to fourth-grade for our warm-up activities. I am also continuing to practice multiplication facts with him using an egg carton and pom-poms.
Jase and I reviewed pronouns. He finished writing a letter using 4 pronouns and 4 antecedents. He continued working on main idea and details. He wrote 2 paragraphs creating a topic sentence and supporting it with detail sentences.
Jase and I started a figure drawing exercise using the wooden figure drawing model dolls. We first started by marking out the size of the figure and going over each part of the model and the joints, etc. We then mapped out the body and added shading.
