Libby completed the sculpting phase of her clay dolls, focusing on adding details to their faces and hair before placing them in the kiln. While waiting for them to bake, she spent the last ten minutes playing with small clay teddy bear sculptures, engaging in imaginative storytelling. Libby has a strong enthusiasm for character creation, and future classes could incorporate advanced painting techniques to bring her sculptures to life.

Today was a fun session before spring break. To begin, I read the rest of the book "Mercy Watson Fights Crime" by Kate DiCamillo. Libby brought a stuffed animal pig from home to participate! We went to the staff kitchen so that Libby could sequence magnetic letters on the refrigerator. She identified the vowels and built CVC words using all vowels. She independently built the following irregular words: and, the. Libby's confidence is growing with decoding and encoding. Returning to her office, we reviewed the rest of her irregular word deck and learned a new word: is.
Reading, letter recognition, initial and ending sounds, sight words
Lesson Outline
Review the sight words for the week. Go over the sounds of letters in a random order. Read decodable reader for short vowel words. Practice building words from pictures by sound starting with the initial sound/s, middle sound, and ending sound/s.
Today, I introduced Libby and Teddy to the game of badminton.
We talked about how to hit the shuttle cock.
We also talked about keeping score.
