Alexandra began with a cut-and-paste activity with the numbers 1 through 20 which she also colored in a pattern. Then, she neatly and properly traced the numbers 1 through 10. We finished with a game of popcorn math. We took turns rolling a dot cube and coloring a piece of popcorn with the number rolled on the gameboard. Alexandra won the game by coloring 4 popcorns in a row.
We spent much of the session getting to know each other. Libby gave me a tour of her office and we reviewed her binder of work from Dr. Valerie. I took note of the skills learned (lowercase and upper case letters, VCV and VC-e words) and books that Libby particularly enjoyed. Libby picked out a lavender binder on Amazon which should arrive Wednesday. We will get to work next session!
Libby continued to work on the unit assessment on understanding addition. Questions included how to show numbers differently, represent addition as adding to or putting together, write equations to show addition, and find the sum of two numbers. Libby will continue this assessment tomorrow.
This morning, Libby began the unit assessment on understanding addition. Questions assess how to show numbers differently, represent addition as adding to or putting together, write equations to show addition, and find the sum of two numbers. Today she answered the vocabulary review questions on the plus sign to show addition, the equal sign, writing an equation, and adding groups to find the sum.
We focused on some other words from the story such as family, food, love, music, dreams, and laughter.
We read them in the book. Libby then drew pictures of two of our words (he chose love and food), cut them out, and put them into our model of Celia's house.
This act mirrored what it says in Spanish in the book. That despite her house being small, it was always full of family, food, love, music, dreams and laughter.
