Libby used paint brushes, change color markers, and writing paper to practice her sight words, words with short vowels, and adding a silent e to make the vowel long. We read a Tomie dePaola book and looked at pictures in his biography.
We played on the ukelele, and learned a little about strumming technique. We listened to some ukelele music and talked about the difference between the ukelele and a violin.
Libby completed her interactive calendar. She read and discussed all her vocabulary words. She put together her daily sentence puzzle. She assembled her STEM project, a battery-operated bubble machine.
Today, we focused on recognizing and counting numbers to 100. We used the hundreds chart to count by 1s and 10s to 100 while recognizing their patterns. Then, Libby worked online, skip counting by 1s. She completed 10 groups of 10 having to jump from number to number to get to 100 correctly. Finally, Libby played a round of addition bingo to help reinforce our recent addition lessons.
Libby continued to work on understanding addition and used objects, drawings, counting, and equations to help solve addition problems involving adding to. Libby wrote addition equations to model given scenarios and drew pictures to model given addition equations. She also used critical thinking skills and connecting cubes to find the missing addend of addition equations.
Talk about what the president does for our country. Recall when we talked about how the president is elected by voters around the US and now he or she will have the first day on January 20th. Use pages 106 - 109 in text and pages 75-76 in workbook.

Using pages 100 - 105, talk about the symbols that represent the United States of America. Talk about the flag and recite the Pledge of Allegiance. Talk about the Statue of Liberty and how it was a gift from France. Libby asked how they could bring such a big statue here so we watched a video on how it was brought here and built.
