We discussed Martin Luther King Jr. and what he did that was courageous. She listened to the story "The Mitten," by Jan Brett. She colored the main characters, discussed the story details, and then put the main characters in the proper sequence.

I subbed for Libby for Social studies at the same time as I had Teddy for Science.
This morning, Libby worked online on a sorting, counting, and ordering activity. She sorted fuzz bugs into jars according to their color, counted the number of bugs in each jar, and ordered the jars from least to greatest. Then, we continued to work on understanding addition. Libby solved addition within 10 equations using a number line to help her find the answers.
Libby, Teddy and I played some various types of tag games together.
We then came inside and played a variety of puzzle games.
We started by playing Jenga and then we played other games.
Libby and I played Bingo with short vowel words. She used the sand tray and writing paper to practice sight words and long vowel words with silent e. I read a Tomie dePaola book to her.
Today's lesson focused on Martin Luther King Jr. and why he is celebrated. Libby cut out and colored the pages of a flip book on his philosophies and dreams and how he fought to make them a reality through peaceful demonstrations and his "I Have a Dream" speech.
This afternoon, Libby and I looked over a Science Spin scholastic reader. We looked at pictures and read about raccoons. Libby participated in a guided reading exercise and read that they steal food at night. We noted that with their masks, they actually look like little thieves. We asked a question whether raccoons work alone but learned they work in groups. Libby examined a map in the Scholastic activity sheet and wrote down the number of raccoons in each group noted, and she then added the sums together to fill in a graph. We ended the session watching an academic video about the role of scientists.

I subbed for Barbara this afternoon, Monday, 1-13-25, from 1:23 - 2:08 - in Science.
This morning, Libby and I began with a game of Race to 20. We took turns rolling 2 dice and using an addition mat to find the sum. Then, tens frames were filled using connecting cubes until the first player reached 20 or two tens frames. Then, Libby used objects, drawings, counting, and equations to help solve addition problems involving adding to. Libby wrote addition equations to model given scenarios and drew pictures to model given addition equations. She also solved Add To Result Unknown addition word problems involving real-world scenarios.
Libby used paint brushes, change color markers, and writing paper to practice her sight words, words with short vowels, and adding a silent e to make the vowel long. We read a Tomie dePaola book and looked at pictures in his biography.
We played on the ukelele, and learned a little about strumming technique. We listened to some ukelele music and talked about the difference between the ukelele and a violin.
