Today is the last day of school! I helped Libby clean out her office as we discussed the year and what she had learned. We read "Poetry Speaks to Children," a collection of poetry that I enjoy reading with children her age. Libby particularly enjoyed "Bear Song" by Kay Ryan, "Sneeze" by Maxine Kumin, "Mrs. Mitchell's Underwear" by Dennis Lee, and "Rabbit" by Mary Ann Hoberman. We talked about how sometimes poems don't make sense, and that's ok!
Libby and I had a 'Fun Day' on the last day of school. She chose to have imaginative playtime with her doll house and create pictures using her colored pencil set. It has been a wonderful school year with Libby, and I have thoroughly enjoyed being her teacher. Have a great summer.
I conducted visual, auditory, and blending exercises. Libby is close to mastery of all sounds taught, and her blending (decoding) improves with every session. For regular spelling, I dictated CVC words and a sentence to write and edit. For irregular spelling, we reviewed her word deck. She is close to mastery with all the irregular words taught. Libby read two decodable books from Flyleaf Publishing. To conclude, I read a chapter of Kate DiCamillo's book, "Eugenia Lincoln and the Unexpected Package."
Libby seen in her room for a 45-minute occupational therapy treatment session. Focus of therapy has been on improving her ocular motor skills, visual perceptual abilities, fine motor development, visual motor skills, sensory motor skills and graphomotor skills. Today for the the first time Libby wore a denim dress to school. This was the first time she has worn a dress and it was a bittersweet day because it was her last OT session. Please review her end of the year summary for the details of her progress in Occupational Therapy. During today's sessions we reviewed the letters "k, g and q" and Libby participated in fun craft fine motor activities which incorporated dexterity and manipulation skills. We had a fantastic year together and I will truly miss treating her, but am so happy she is doing so well.
Play games this week that review the many skills we worked on all year. Games will include memory, speed recall, sentence cutouts, and other like games.
