Today's lesson introduced the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of the United States government. We discussed why these branches were formed, who makes up each branch, and the duties of each branch. Then, Libby took a picture of the White House, U.S. Capitol, and Supreme Court and matched them with their corresponding descriptions.

Libby participated in an experiment about density. She poured vinegar and baking soda in a glass and made a prediction of what would happen when she dropped raisins into the clear glass. She learned that while they did drop to the bottom, they attached themselves to gas bubbles that made them dance to the surface. Once they reached the surface the bubbles popped, and the raisins went right back to the bottom to begin the process all over again.

She read all of Unit 1 high Frequency words. She put together an activity using short (e) Word Families (en) and (ed). She wrote a story about a haunted house.

This morning, Libby worked on modeling subtraction using a bar model. Libby listened to word problems and used counting cubes to help visualize the problems. Then, she completed the given bar models and wrote the corresponding subtraction sentences to find solutions. Libby finished with the lesson check and spiral review problems.

I Like Myself, Be More Cat, and Fall Landscape

Libby and I read the books I Like Myself and Be More Cat. I had her read some of the words to me. We enjoyed the illustrations. Libby was inspired by the Be More Cat illustrations and confidently added more to her fall landscape. She knew that the cat in the middle ground is smaller than the pumpkins in the foreground. She did great work!
