Rights and Responsibilities: Ben was asked, what are our rights given to us by our government? He provided the correct response. We viewed a video detailing the Bill of Rights and discussed its content. He said, "Tokyo has freedoms like our country and they have high buildings. " He was right. Rights and Responsibilities: The video was excellent defining and giving examples of the topic. The Bill of Rights were shown and our civil responsibilities were clearly expressed. After the video Ben took two tests and got them all right. Super Job, Ben.
Celebrate America: We viewed the national symbols of America, The Flag, Statue of Liberty, The White House, and others. Ben was involved with good questions. Good job, Ben.
Analise learned about the national bird of Australia; the emu. We watched non-fiction video footage on how they move even though they can't fly. She memorized her fact and decorated an emu template using crayons and feathers.
Government: Ben read and watched videos on brain-pop about government today. He was introduced to the branches of The US Government and their responsibilities. We read how people become a U.S citizen, and the process an immigrant goes through to be a US citizen. Ben did a great job and responded well to questions asked.
Government: Ben was introduced to Governments, at the federal, state, city, and town levels. We discussed our U.S. Constitution its purpose, and its limitations. Ben provided good response to questions and input to related subjects as we talked. I am very proud of you, Ben, good lesson.
Analise and I used the wall map in the dojo to locate the continents. WIthin 3-5 minutes, she had 5 of the names and location memorized. We began learning about Australia today. We watched live footage of the Red Kangaroo and did a dot painting of a kangaroo silhouette. Analise memorized a fact that she will use to present her Australia patchwork project to her peers.
Cultures: Completed Cultures of people in different countries, the dress, food, beliefs, and holidays. Ben did a good job, for a reward he wanted to view famous musicians and artists like Van Gogh, Picasso, and Mozart.
I continued to guide Kelly in completing the first draft of her research paper on Civil War Medicine. I assisted Kelly with research, compiling evidence, and writing and revising her paper. I left her with her first draft with my edits on it. We then started working on her project board together.
