Today Bobby studied the following topics: Henry Flagler (his life, success, businesses), Julia Tuttle and Miami, the Florida Keys, Florida as a vacation destination, the emergence of the railroad in American history, how and why Flagler extended the railroad to Key West, the building of The Breakers, and modern trains (one in China can travel 320 kmh).

Wants and Needs: Marina watched a video on Wants and Needs. She learned to distinguish between the two and listed items for needs, and items that were wants. She drew pictures that were descriptive of each category and played word games identifying the difference. She made her own list of each category and she discussed how we can live without some things and survive, such as iPads, iPods, and TV. She did a good job following directions and behavior. Solving Problems: Ethan was introduced how to solve problems. Steps were given starting with identifying the problem, then finding different ways to resolve the problem. The sequence was given until the a solution was found. Ethan identified a picture with problems he identified the problems and gave solutions for it. Schools: Marina viewed schools today. Schools consist of elementary, middle and high school. In school we learn different subjects such as math, reading, languages, and following rules. We learn to respect teachers, not talking while he/she is talking, and respect other students not to bully but treat others as we would like to be treated. Follow instructions during fire drills. A School is a community everyone working together, bus drivers, nurses, and those in authority.

Transportation: We viewed different types of transportation today. Cars, train, flight, boats, ships, and variations of each. Marina was introduced to the many uses that freight, by trucks, ships and rail supply the markets and stores we buy from. She was asked to write 1 or 2 paragraphs about todays lesson and add her personal comments. Marina was very appropriate today. The lesson went well and she scored well on the quizzes.

Lesson Outline
Natural Resources: Ethan learned what natural resources are and what they are used for. Water, lumber, coal, air, minerals, farming etc. are used for life survival, lumber for building, coal for steam power and heating, farming for food. Without natural resources our survival would be threatened. Used California as an example they have been in a drought condition for 4 years. Many homes have no water to drink, bathe, or cook with. Ethan provided contributions as we discussed the topic. We concluded with an animated Bible story. Good going Ethan!
