Different climates: Marina reviewed the names of continents and oceans. We introduced the different climates that are in different parts of the world, identified the Meridian and Equator. Great job Marina.
Maps using compass star and scale measurements: Ethan did very well today using the compass star for direction and measuring distance using the map scale. Different locations were given student had to use the map scale to determine distance in miles. Great job Ethan
Bobby read about and explored the early explorers who colonized Florida. We discussed how the Native Americans were impacted, the goals of exploration, and the issues regarding land and resources. He learned about the timeline of Florida from the 1500's-1600's in terms of exploration, and we talked about the connections to today in terms of Native American life in Florida. We discussed major settlements and locations across the state, as well as historical places one could visit today that have been preserved.
We spent much of our time learning the differences between resolutions and bills, and about what types of resolutions can become laws. We came up with various examples. We also spent time learning about how to create complete sentences from the incomplete definitions in the textbook.

I gave Will a model definition that he could follow, and then he wrote out a definition on his own during class. I think he's still a little confused, but we're working on clearing up this confusion.

Today Gwendolyn began our class by completing her types of communities foldable, that she started before going to New York. Gwendolyn and I then reviewed the vocabulary from this unit. Gwendolyn will have a small matching quiz on this material on Friday. Gwendolyn then set up her notebook for the our new unit. This unit focuses on Citizenship and Government. We're talking about the vocabulary terms in chapter 3, lesson 1. Gwendolyn worked very hard and did a wonderful job participating in today's class!
Will and I looked at the different types of bills, the sources by which bills come to be introduced by Congresspeople, and how bills are handled in committees.
