Henry and I discussed topics he is studying in Social Studies. We discussed famous explorers and looked to the map to trace their routes. Henry knew about all of them and taught me some interesting facts. We also discussed landforms.
Arianna finished her President's Day creations today. Afterwards, we discussed character traits that make a good President. We also looked to maps around the world to identify the three continents, and locations, that she will visit on her cruise. We began an interactive notebook about earning, spending and saving.
Henry chose a current event today on the shock of the electric eel. We read about a scientist who measured the shock of a baby eel by placing his hand in the water and letting the eel shock him so he could measure how much current flowed through his arm. He discovered that a baby eel has enough shock to cause involuntary jerk. He concluded that a full grown eel at 5 feet would cause a shock more powerful than a taser. Henry answered comprehension questions about the article after we read it. He also continued working on his boat project. He painted the boat and put the sails on.
Arianna completed questions on the Map of Washington D.C. in "Time for Kids." We discussed President's Day today and Arianna made an Abraham Lincoln mask and a 3D George Washington.
Craig and I reviewed his Quiz answers together. We did not finish. He was able to recall much more information when we discussed and I "put him on the right track" with hints. Flashcards seemed to help as well. We will finish in our next class.
Jayne continued her research into the Winter Olympics. We began the session by watching a short video of the history of the Olympics. Next, we researched the various winter games. Jayne decorated a cover sheet about the Olympics and did a short oral review. She was able to answer various questions about how the Olympics started as well as questions about the 2018 winter Olympics. Jayne was very engaged in this discussion and enjoyed learning about the various sports events.
Charlie and I proceeded through time along the World History timeline. We completed his homework together - comparing and contrasting the Renaissance and the Reformation - since he did not do it on his own. We read in the text and watched "Hip Hughes in History" about the Reformation. We discussed the enlightenment period. We also made a chart of benefits and problems related to the industrial revolution and discussed urbanization and industrialization.
Craig spent time independently working on the Quiz again this morning. In our second session, Craig continued to work on the Quiz. He said he was finished at the end of the session, so we will review it together in our next class.
