Tribal Governments
Lesson Outline
We concluded our discussion of tribal governments today, which we had begun yesterday. To help Jack connect to recently acquired information, I asked him to read a passage entitled, "The Mound Builders and the Seminole," from ReadWorks. It discussed how some groups of Native Americans have descended from the Mound, who got their name because they built towns using heaps of dirt formed into flat-shaped mounds atop of which they placed buildings. We learned that members of the Seminole Nation are an example of a surviving Native American nation of Mound builders. Jack learned that they live in present-day Florida and Oklahoma, and I pointed out how many nearby communities have the word Seminole in their name in efforts to facilitate an even greater connection to the lands on which we live here in Florida. Jack then was prompted to answer 6 multiple-choice questions about the article. His responses indicated good comprehension of the material.

Lesson Outline
We initially attempted to do work before Jack began his 1:00PM therapy session with Jonathan, but Jack was having difficulty regulating his behavior and required repeated prompts to follow directives and make appropriate choices. We went outside for a few minutes prior to the session in efforts to help him regain more self-control. We will compare tribal and state governments when we reconvene tomorrow.

Lesson Comments
Jack was struggling today with behavior during Math class. He said he did not have his medicine this morning. He screamed in my ear and was standing on the arm of his chair. There were other behaviors that were unsafe as well. He did not accept redirection. Jack did not stay in the classroom, use safe behaviors or complete his classwork. Unfortunately, at recess, he made several unsafe choices. Jack was threatening me with the hose, with mud in his hand, and (both Ms. Christy and myself) with the bicycle pump needle. Ms. Christy assisted. I needed Dr. Jordy's assistance. I apologize for the confusing text and call! I was very concerned about the others safety! Jack then joined the other students in a race/ tag. He played well with them.

Lesson Comments
Jack was distracted and off task. We spent the first part of the session outside, as Jack needed some physical activity and fresh air. He insisted on writing an Ice Hockey Presentation (for his brother) on his ipad during our math lesson. He began working and completed the assignment when I mentioned his behavior sheet (which I did not see in the classroom.)
