Jack was found lying on the ground and complaining of a sore ankle. I let Jack know that I would help him to a rolling chair and roll him into the art room. Jack refused, I helped him onto the chair, and he flopped himself off of the chair. Dr. Jordy was called in to assist, we were able to get him onto the chair, and he was rolled into the art room to work on his project.
As Jack only attended 15 minutes of yesterday's class, we picked up where we left off in our study of the Seminole tribe. I asked Jack to read a ReadWorks passage entitled, "The Mound Builders and the Seminole," which discussed how some groups of Native Americans have descended from the Mound. Jack was encouraged to note the most important details in the article. We learned that members of the Seminole Nation are an example of a surviving Native American nation of Mound builders. He used his inferential reasoning skills to answer a questions. When he read that they live in present-day Florida and Oklahoma, I pointed out how many nearby communities have the word Seminole in their name in efforts to facilitate an even greater connection to the lands on which we live here in Florida. Jack then was prompted to answer additional questions about the article for me to assess his synthesis and integration of the material.

Jack was injured during recess (ankle), prior to the start of our class. I found him outside on the artificial turf with Dr. Jordy. Dr. Jordy helped Jack to the bench/ picnic table, and brought out his book and an ice pack. We were to work outside. Jack moved himself from the picnic table to the artificial turf. He could not (or would not) get back up. He was in pain. We did not complete our work .
