In today's class, we would have continued our discussion on acids and bases. We would have started off by recapping what Bronsted-Lowry acids and bases are, as well as doing some practice problems. We would have finished out our class by talking about the Lewis definition of acids and bases and how they differ

In today’s class, Joshua reviewed Bronsted and Lowry acids and bases. We went over what they are, how they got their name, and how they react in chemistry. We also went over the common strong acids and bases, including making flash cards and practicing them to help aid in memorization.

Joshua completed the assignment, a review on acids and bases, earlier in the day, so he continued reading his novel.

Joshua completed an exercise exploring the relationship between matter and energy and the intrinsic properties of a substance.

Joshua was assigned to complete an exercise focusing on Conjugate Acid-Base Pairs - writing acids, bases, and equations. Joshua was also assigned to complete an exercise on Bronsted-Lowry Acids and Bases - labeling the Bronsted-lowry acids and bases and showing the direction of proton transfer. Joshua will ask Mr. Dan questions about problems that he did not understand when he returns. When finished with his Chemistry assignments, Joshua finished working on additional classwork that needed to be completed. Work was collected and given to the front office.

Define and explain the B-L theory of acids and bases. Use examples to indicate a B-L acid and B_L base. Explain a conjugate acid and conjugate base with examples of a forward and reverse reaction.

Introduce the topic of acids and bases. Outline typical acid properties and base properties. Introduce the Arrhenius theory of acids and bases, along with examples. Show the dissociation of acids and bases into hydronium ions and hydroxide ions. Formulate how ammonia and sodium bicarbonate are exceptions to the rule.

Lab exercise to demonstrate how a catalyst will lower the activation energy and allow a reaction to occur at a faster rate.

Discuss the nature of the reactants and how concentration can change the rate. Discuss the increased collisions due to increased concentration. Discuss the effect of surface area on reaction rate. Show why increasing the temperature will generally increase the rate of reaction by increasing the average kinetic energy. Discuss the effect of a catalyst on the activation energy.

Joshua worked independently and carefully as he reviewed material about reaction rates in his book, and answered questions 1-4. In addition, he responded to questions requiring that he interpret data in solving equations. He had time to read page 586 Section 1 in his text and to answer questions 47 and 49.
