1) Ch. 1: Why is Douglass not sure when he is born? Why would slaveholders want to keep their slaves ignorant of things such as age? 2)Ch. 2: Was there a hierarchy among slaves? Describe the life of a slave child. What does he/she possess? What are their duties? 3) Ch. 3: What is ironic about Colonel Lloyd's treatment of his horses compared to the treatment of his slaves? What is ironic about the prejudices that exist among the slaves insofar as their masters are concerned. 4) Ch. 4: What is a first rate overseer? 5). Ch. 5: Douglass describes some events as being "beyond the capacity of language." What does he mean? How can language convey only half of a sentiment?
