Lesson Outline
Brandon read a book for 35 minutes. He read the book, Diary of a Wimpy Kid - Wrecking Ball," and asked me to help him pronounce one or two words. He read silently for most of the time but read aloud upon request. He is an enthusiastic reader and enjoyed pointing out parts he found interesting. He then drew a picture about "My Secret Life" and was able to explain who the main character was and what his picture depicted. Brandon continued drawing on designated pages in his writing log and wrote narratives explaining what he was drawing and more information about his secret life. He used excellent vocabulary, such as extinct and invincible, and created his own character, which he wove into the storyline. When we moved into the Pre-K classroom, Brandon took out the bin of animals and created an imaginative story line about them pairing up, drinking from lakes, and fighting with each other until some became extinct. He used Lego grids as pools of water. We then sorted the big animals from the little animals and placed them in different bins during cleanup. For the final half hour of the day, Brandon played outside with two students and made up a game in which he had to make up clear rules and insure that all players were treated fairly. Brandon demonstrated good recall skills remembering numbers, colors assigned to hula hoops, as well as recalling the order of his team members' based on the numbers assigned. He showed good sportsmanship while playing the game and responded to well to directives.
