Lesson Topic
Use imagination and nature as inspiration to create art to create
Lesson Outline
Avery first planned a drawing she wished to create. She chose herself as the subject. She was then asked to close her eyes and think about the colors she planned to use. She was encouraged to first draw using pencil and to then decide on the colors and follow through using them. Avery was praised for demonstrating an ability to plan ahead as she chose which color would be used for different parts of the painting. After drawing herself, she added a pink bow to her hair using watercolor paint. She also created a scene drawing flowers and a sun, and subsequently painted them in vibrant colors. Finally, Avery was assisted in writing her name and painting over the trace lines, with physical assistance. She enjoyed this activity and asked to take it home once dry. We finished up the day playing a game outdoors. She threw a ball expertly to another student in a game of catch, shot some hoops playing basketball, and followed instructions in a game which required her to jump into different colored hula hoops upon command of a person designated as 'it.' She was 'it' on two occasions and demonstrated a good ability to follow the rules of the game, independent of prompts. She behaved appropriately throughout our time together and seemed to enjoy the activities chosen for day.
